Cyclops Frozen Fish Cubes

Why take any chances? Just defrost in a container of tank water and pour it in as Noahs Ark6 suggested. I would think you're taking the chance of injuring the fish in some way by putting a frozen substance in the water. Whether it's from cold pockets or from a fish pecking at a frozen cube, they aren't equipped for it, so don't do it.

it don't make any difference to the fish frozen or not.
I have to disagree with you, adding frozen foods to the aquarium can cause pockets of cold water, which could result in the death of a fish due to the sudden temperature change.
Well I hope you are not right, I was advised in another thread to bury a frozen cube of brine shrimp in the sand so my panda cory's would be able to enjoy it without the other fish eating it first. Can't imagine a tiny cube like that changing the water temp in my 50 gallon tank enough to cause problems for the fish.

fish48, you have said that numerous amounts of time now, if thats what you think, that's fine, but you don't need to keep repeating yourself.Another point that This Old Spouse made is that if the fish eat the cold food from a frozen block, that can also damage the fish, I would say possibly even more than pockets of cold water.

I pour 12l buckets of very cold water into my tank, straight from the tap and the fish seem to enjoy it. they swim in the stream of water going into the tank. I cant emagine that a tiny frozen cube would do much damage lol :fun: I do defrost their frozen food though, it spreads out and gives them all a chance to have a bit :good:

Well it must be time to start imagining. I also advise that you temperature match the new water you pour into your tank because thats quite dangerous. Do you use dechlorinator, because the term "straight from the tap" seems to say no, if so, you really really really need to use it. Something like this, although there is cheaper options out there.

dechlorinator is being discussed in another thread, personally not needed.

also you say temp match when refill the tank, when it rains in nature its not matched, hence cooler water changes can trigger spawning.

But he most likely doesnt want to trigger spawning. On the subject of dechlorinator, unless you use rain water, it is needed. It's been proven that chlorine (present in all tap water) damages fish. It may not kill them, but put them through prolonged suffering, how come it's not needed for you? When it rains in the amazon the rain isnt 18 degrees and the water 25 you know. And if you think about it, the ratio of new water to original water is far far greater in an aquarium than in a giant river.

I really really really do use de-chlor (check your spelling if you are going to be a grammar nazi  )

Correct me if i'm wrong but a few posts up you said "personally not needed" that implies to me that you don't use it. And in reply to being a "grammer nazi" what that other guy was saying was a constant mistake, my incorrect spelling of really was a one of mistake. I am also dislexyc so i find it hard to spell correctly, but i try my best. I am amazed that you're getting aggressive when i'm trying to help you. Don't you want to expand your knowlege of fish keeping?:)

it was some one else who said the personally not needed bit, and i thought you were having a dig at my incorrect spellling of imagine ;)

Any way going back to the frozen fishfood  going to my local tropicalfish shop said back a couple of years now it was ok just to put the frozen food straight in to the tank even thoe I agree about melting it first in tank water as better spread or my yoyos wood woof the lot down. Do you not find that each shop all give out different information and gets really confusing. :fun: To add a little more here I was giving an elephantnose last week and was told he would be ok with my loaches, only to find out that the poor thing would starve to death so then advised to put frozen food just inside his cave so he would smell it while defrosting this again was advice from a fish centre. but before anyone jumps on me he was taken to fishrescue and is doing great :good:
