nope, doing weekly water changes is good for your betta

Here's the best explanation of a cycle. It's all about bacteria I prefer cycled tanks for my lazy bettas with gravel,plants and the works. But my breeding bettas are kept in bare bottom 1 gallons and I do 100% water changes twice a week.

So either way works with bettas
