Hi there everyone, many thanks for looking in advance

i am looking at getting a new small (10 litreish) tank for cherry shrimp only. i was wondering the following things.

As they will need a filter with the tank, can i put the new filter in an established tank, and then when im ready put it into the new tank with the fish straight away. is this a way to cycle my media?

also i know they will need lights but will they need a heater?

one last thing. does a tank with cherries need a lid.

cheers

Yes to cycle the new filter you can put it in an established tank for a few weeks to cycle it, alternatively, use 1/3 of your existing mature media and place it directly in the new filter for an instantly cycled filter.

Yes once filter is ready, immediately add shrimp/fish to keep the bacteria fed.

They will need a heater, unless your room is warm enough to keep the temp 24c upto 26c, but a small 25w heater will suffice for a 10g tank.

A lid would be a good idea, as shrimp can and will leave the water and tank if there are gaps, having said that, I have 3 amanos and 3 bamboo in a 35L arc tank with large gaps and none have ever tried to leave, but best to stay on the safe side.

I can back up the lid requirement.

A pair of amano shrimp ventured down the stairs in my house. Found them dry and icky when I got home from work.

If you dont want a lid, then simply ensure there is nothing for them to climb up. i.e. wires.
