I am now starting a FOWLR tank as i was given bad advice about LR. Anyway, do i just set up the tank and water and make sure its the correct temp and salinity(sp) and then add the live rock and test weekly? Do i have to do anything else to it? I am slightly confused as i have only ever had a FO marine tank before. I did read those pinned topics, and have googled my questions and all the books i have are for FO tanks also but still not sure how i would start. Does anyone have a link to a topic where the starting and cycling process is explained in detail?

well any help would be appreciated

thank you

also What are some good powerhead brands?

thanks

hydor koralia are ment to be good! brought one on ebay and waiting to get it... i also just set up a marine tank i added the salt and everythink with live rock no fish yet!

add your water into the tank, mixed with the salt, then wait a few days until the water is clear and at the right temperature and salinity, then add your rock, i would ensure you are happy with the final layout then add substrate up to and around the rock :good:

Get a tank with the right mix of sewater in it, add some powerhead for flow (at least 10x turnover per hour), drop the rock in and aquascape. Test daily for nitrogen cycle components. Should take a week or less for the cycle to complete. Add fish. Enjoy.

There are obviously some more details than that, but it's really not much harder. Try not to use high-powered lights to avoid algae blooms.

this is the reason i want to get live rock, it seems so much more simple than messing around with filters and things. Need to sort out a water source first

as skifletch mentioned you will need flow, basically betta5 the rock is the filter, powerheads point at the rock and this is the basic set up, personally i would suggest a skimmer as well and in the long run a sump as i mentioned on an earlier thread
