I'm currently cycling a 10 gal community tank w/ 6 fish. It's been going for about a month and a half. (Never again- fish-less only) My filter return has built up a slimey coating, kinda whitish/green and stringy. Is this what I am looking for from the beneficial bacteria build-up? Or should this be cleaned away?

Thanks.

PS. My cycled goldfish tank didn't have any.

This is most likely green algae, which thrive in high nutrient (nitrate and phosphorus) environments. If the light is shining on the filter return as well, this promote this groth even more. A good filter cleaning can be done once a month or every few months as the cycle is completed and you should notice this algae dissappear.

Ox :good:

Thank you for the response ox!! I figured it probably needed to go but I just wanted to check. Thanks again. :)

Just noticed your location. I'm from Rochester too. What area exactly. I grew up around Irondequoit. Now in NC.
