Cycling a new tank with an already existing tank..

After 96 hrs (4th day) my specs are:

Ammonia 0.15ppm

Nitrite 0.25ppm

The conclusion that I have come to is that my tank in FACT has been having a "mini cycle". Unless my ammonia spikes again I think I'm on the slope down already. Although, I'd hardly call the highest reading I have had a "spike" which was only .50ppm. NOT 5.0, I'm not puting the decimal in the wrong spot
I MEAN what I type, only 0.50, that's not even 1.0!!!!!

Pretty cool I'd have to say. :shifty: 8) :kana:

Glad to hear it. I recomend cycling that way to anyone who is able. It takes alot of the headache out of cycling for me, but you have to make sure that it all comes out of a "healthy" tank. Which I am sure yours are.

Silvers are doing great thanks for asking, although they are not too thrilled that I have been giving them green leaf lettuce, they turn their noses up and swim away. Guess I have spoiled them too much. LOL

Silver,

Looks like you're doing good. We're still cycling our 240 gallon (fishless cycling). I think it's nearing the end because this morning the nitrites were at .50. We were hoping to be able to put our angelfish and silver dollars in there this weekend. :D

WOW your Silvers are going to LOVE that!!!!!!!!

That's sort of why I got this 30 gallon, so my Silvers would have more room to themselves!!

Okay,

It's the 6th day and my readings went up a tad, probably because I added my 4th fish yesterday.

Ammonia - 0.25ppm

Nitrite - 0.50ppm

Hopefully they will still go down like they were :X . Man, they were doing soooo darn good too!! :sly:

Hopefully your readings will go back down soon.

This hobby sure will test one's patience!

We are so anxious to get those silver dollars and angels in the big tank. We can't wait to see their reactions when they see all that room.

BTW Silver, Grandpa is doing better so hopefully he (she?) won't get too stressed from the move.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Silver sounds like you are doing ok even though it went up a bit, you really need to invest in a Nitrate test kit, because once you see them coming up, you will be surprised at how quick everything else goes down. I also use my nitrate test kit the most after its cycled, to make sure I am doing enough water changes. Keep us posted.

CMC, I am so Jealous, i hope when you are cycled you can post some pics of the fish and tank in there. I bet Grandpa will be so happy with all of that room to swim. Sounds like the perfect tank to add just a few more sd's too, Hint Hint, LOL.

Okay,

Good news on my 30 gallon........it's DONE CYCLING!! YAY!

It is day 10 today and my tank has been going through a mini cycle!
I did my first 20% water change today and took water specs afterward:

Ammonia - 0ppm

Nitrite - 0ppm

I am happy now :) And so are my fishies!
