ne ohter fish that would b good other than danios, or can u give me the name of sum really good looking danios, im srry but they arent the most vibrant fish :look:

They may not be that Vibrant, but put 6+ in a tank and it sure livens it up, even the other fish. ;)

You can cycle with platys, I believe ... at least, I never had any problems doing so in the past.

However, once I learned about fishless cycling -- I prefer to go that route. :)

Good luck with your tank!!

well i still like the good ol' fish cycle bcause i dont wanna ruin a 55 gallon with sumthing i kno how to do but mite do it wrong :D

Here is how my LFS explained it to me if I choose to do it.

Buy pure ammonia, nothing else in it.

Add 1 capful per 10G and test the water. Should be around 2.5ppm. Continue to do so daily until the ammonia drops to 0 and continues to remain at 0 within a few hours after adding. :)

is that really all with a fishless cycle? i will have plants and sand though, is it still the same?

With plants or not it should be the same. The substrate itself only matters that the bacteria can grow on it, as sand. ;)

well i just read ur supposed to add pure ammonia, like u said, then decrease it by half wen it starts to go down, then wen the nitrates come in u stop the ammonia, is that tru?

When the Nitrates come in, and the Nitrites are 0 or .25 area then your tank is ready, so of course you would stop the ammonia. ;)

My LFS just said it for the Ammonia being gone within 1 to 2 hours after adding to the tank, which means that the bacteria to eat the ammonia has built up well and everything else should be pretty stable by that point.

Cody have tou seen my danio website?
anyway on to your question.....
you can do a fish cycle with any hardy fish,
If you don't want danios :grr: I suggest WCMM's
or Guppies as they are both very hardy.
But why you don't want danios is beyond me

I have cycled with zebra danios, tiger barbs and rosy barbs. That was before I learned about fishless cycling though :p

well wut kind of danios do u suggest? i want sum really colorful or vibrant lookin ones :hyper:

Pearl or Roseus(if you can get them) are nice, aviod glowlights, although they are the most colourfull they are the least hardiest. Aslo danio kerri (blue danios) are colourful.
I'd say Pearl danios are you best bet, if you don't want Leopards or Zebras.

Cody,

How you cycle and if you choose to cycle with fish, what fish you use, depends on one very important question:

Once your tank is cycled, what fish will you want to have in your tank?

I think once we know that, we can give you a better answer.

If it's something big, then it's just eat the danios and you won't have to worry about getting them their own tank or giving them away, not to mention free food for your fish. If you get a big fish eating fish that is... :look: I'll go away now...
