I have purchased some slate to create a small terrace for my 6 gal tank, I originally planned to use aquarium sealant to stick the slate pieces together, but after looking around the forum I noticed the mention of superglue and figured this would be easier as it would dry quicker. I have seen it mentioned that it has to be cyanoacrylate, but I just wondered does it need to be 100% cyanoacrylate or just contain that? I checked the local poundshop and found a few in there that contain it, but also have other ingrediants. If it needs to be 100% cyanoacrylate could someone recommend a brand so I can get it off ebay or something?

Ive just used some for my moss and coconuts, All it said was that it contains it, so it should be ok. Please post up pics when your finished as im interested in doing the same

if it states other ingredients, then I would not use it. Cyanoacrylate is known to be safe.....anything else is a risk.

oh, and if this is for slate, then I would go with the aquarium sealant instead. Superglue needs two pretty flat areas to bond, and you are unlikely to get that with bits of broekn slate at angles to each other. Aquarium sealant is more of a gel like substance and will fill in the gaps between the two pieces. I've just used it myself for the exact same thing.

You can get a 20g tube on eBay for around £4

Thanks for that, good to know its been done and worked! lol do you have any photos of yours? Does the sealant show up much on the terrace? I'm making mine with small slate pieces what with it being a small tank, so hoping the sealant wont show too much. Could always cover it with moss if it does I suppose! I can't wait to do mine, have had such a busy week and looks like it will be monday before I can even get the slate washed and ready to make the terrace now! I have been waiting far too long to get this little tank set up, my frogs are getting impatient!

Oh and thanks for your reply too Titchie, will definately be posting photos when I finally get it done! :good:

here you go....

I tried to apply the sealant inside the 'cave' so it was not visible....and it worked. I used superglue to stick the moss on.

Thanks for sharing that, looks good! Can't see any sealant either :good: Though I might still have problems with that with what I'm making but I will just see what happens. Do you mind me asking what brand of super glue you used? Would still be handy to know incase I do decide to put moss on the slate terrace.

Roll on monday! :shout:
