I'm looking to cut a section of glass out of my new 5ft tank. The area I want to cut is a redundant piece of glass - so it won't affect the tank's structure.

Here's two images to make it easier to understand: Image 1 and image 2.

I can fit one external filter hose through the gap but I'd like to be able to fit two hoses through the gap - hence why I need to cut that section of glass out.

Would using a tungsten carbide-coated blade do the trick? Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Edit: The tank was previously owned by a friend of mine. It looks as if a section of glass was taken out already.

Go to a hardware store and buy a glass cutter. They're pretty cheap here in the states, around $4.00

Totaly doable but cutting glass looks and sounds easy... if you have done so before then by all means go for it. if not buy an extra piece to practice on... it is a fickle thing and will frustrate you if you don't know what you are "feeling" in the glass.
if you make the mistake of scoring a piece to slightly you will crack well beyond your intention before you realize it.

Practice or not you are dealing with a attached, suspended piece of glass without proper full support.. tread lightly

I probably wouldn't bother for the amount of space you'd gain. If it's absolutely necessary, I'd try cutting the silicone away with a knife than trying to cut the glass itself.

Be very careful cutting aquarium glass. Some tanks are made with common glass that cuts easily but other tanks are made with tempered glass. If you happen to have one made with tempered glass, I would not even try to cut it.
