Cucumber Debate

When I first started using cucumenr I read that the fish left the seeds and they would just be left floating around the tank

interesting, where you get the info? I've never come across the comment before.

I actually took that advice from this forum. Was when I was just starting up over a year ago.

This interesting to me. Never really gave much thought to feed the fish veggies or fruits. How long do you usually them in there for before taking out the extra leftovers? I'm assuming if they start to fall apart and deteriorate it could mess with the water conditions.

my cucumber slices dont last long enough to rot away. i leave the seeds in, and weigh it down with one of those things you screw into the end of a corn cob so you can hold its hot buttery goodness at BBQ time.

i do peel the cucumber, and it all gets eaten within a day.

we the shouldn't, not with a good filtration and bio mass. things like "skins", are very important. they carry most of the nutrition. many fish need them to degrade, before they can be eaten. but, if you feed too much, a week will/should be, fine.

yes, i has a look at your posts on the subject, back then. cant find any advice on not feeding seeds, though. I was just interested in who gave the advice. thinking, perhaps, they gave a reason. (that makes sense)

the reason was as mentioned above, they would clog the filter eventually. The advice wasn't directed at me, I lifted it from a thread I was reading. Still, will now be putting whole slices in.
