Hi,

I just picked up a juvenile Cuckoo Catfish (Synodontis multipunctatus), only to notice once I got it home that it's missing one of it's pectoral fins. It's hardly there at all :( I'm not too worried, it's obviously happened in the shop but he/she's swimming around just fine and has already started eating.

I'm just wondering, how well do they recover and regrow their fins (timeframe)? Gorgeous little guys. I'd love to hear anyone's experiences with these fish.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

if it isn't a genetic deformity and the fin isn't infected with fungus or bacteria, then it will often grow back normally in a month or so. If a fungal or bacterial infection has infected the site then it might not heal up at all.

Okay thanks. I can't see any sign of infection or fungus ie no white fluff or discolouration, so I'm hoping it's gonna grow back.

Thanks again,

Eric

catfish are pretty tough so if it is kept in a clean tank with good water and fed well, then it should be fine :)
