How do I explain all this. Okay, we set-up a local Betta Club, and we have have two resellers who supply Betta's sourced from Kelson's, Stingray's and Phil Ngo (Exoticbetta's). The fish sold by our club members start at $15++ with the bulk costing $20-40. We are not a rich country, so $15 probably means more here than it does there (minimum wage her is like $180 a month).
I noticed our club was becoming like a little "Ferrari" club of those who could afford to buy expensive fish. I got this fish to sell to club members and those who are interested in getting betta's but who don't want to spend an arm an a leg. Also, if we only offer the more expensive one's and show types, we are going to be a small club. Met a distributor at a fish show, so I decided to get 20 to offer to local club member and prospective club members.
These fish are actually part of a bulk import from Thailand. Box of 200 hundred Cambodian Crowntails imported by the box without the local buyer knowing exactly what they look like. I got them pretty much the same way, picking 20 fish from solid color 250ml cups 1/4 to 1/3 filled with water so you really can't check them out much (top view only... he he).
1,2 and 4 are probably the best 3 of the 20.
3, 5 and 6 are typical of the next 10.
The reamaining 7 are not as nice as these bunch with more obvious "flaws". Or they might have deteriorated due to conditions. They were in small plastic bags for at least 3 maybe as long as 7 days and have been in the small 250ml cuos for 2 weeks.
All 20 fish cost $23 for the lot.
Shipping cost to the US would be high. Mainly cause we ain't organized. I believe the Thai's and Singaporean resellers and breeders send their fish to the US and Australia by grouping the shipments together. They usually charge $5.
Thailand ---> US$5 + transhipper
Thailand ---> Phililippines $20 for one fish, but it get cheaper the more you get + cost of pick-up at airport.
Philippine ---> USA $???
But our country is promoting the export of tropical fish. And our club is trying to work something out. Maybe in the near future I can send some of them to you.
