hi
how can we all help lend our support to organisations trying to stop the cruel practice of fish dyeing/injecting etc???? theres loads of us on this forum from quite a few different countries.... surely theres something we can do as a large group of people interested in the fishie world to try & help stop these barbaric practices. i get the strong feeling that the majority of people involved in this forum are extremely worried about humane practice and care about fish welfare
i am willing to sign my name to ANY petitions that are supporting banning of any barbaric practices (dying/injecting of fish) & im sure there are loads of others on this forum that feel the same way... but i dont know where to start.... can anyone help???? send me in the right direction... send me to others that feel as strongly as i do about these barbaric practices??? i know the site'deathbydyeing.org" is a good start.... but does anyone know of any others???? where can i( & other concerned fishkeepers lend their support???
thanks :)

The best and most important thing you can do is to not purchase anything from a store that sells dyed fish. Let them know why you will not shop there too. Ask your friends and neighbors not to shop at these stores as well. Hit them where it hurts, their pocketbook.

IMO I don't think there is anything we can do about it that would actually have a great effect. I wouldn't really blame the LFS because quite a few of them don't choose which fish they sell, since they just have the parent company do the ordering for them. At least around here the majority of them do.

Just somethin to think about ;)

that link to 55g dude tells you all we can basically do to stop the dying of fish

i dont know were they sell dyed fish? they dont sell em at petsmart? do they?!??!?! -_- :(

thanks everyone!!!
no we might not stop anything but theres no harm in trying. also a lot of people buy dyed fish cos they are totally unaware that they are dyed/injected. anything that improves awareness cant be bad.
and things CAN be changed if there is enough of an outcry/support. look at whaling & baby seal clubbing in the 70s/80s!!!! i know theyre trying to resume whaling in some countries & i know baby seals are again being killed for their fur but huge public support DID do something to help stop these practices and even if 20 yrs later things have resumed its only because of lack of new publicity/ awareness.
i care enough about fish welfare just to lend my voice to anything that might help & its good to know loads of others feel the same :D

i suspect that some leb owned fishtore injects their fishes but i dont know how to tell..
also just curious because this can be a problem for humans, if they accidentally injected some air into the fish while dying wouldnt that kill the fish?
but i have heard of some dyed fishes that my friends sister wanted to buy in china, luckily he had enough moral values to stop her.
