I got my pink crowntail a week ago now and he's in his own cycled filtered tank with a couple of panda cories (they only had 2 in the shop). Tried him with the small interpet pellets (can't get hikari ones anywhere) that the other betta eat but he just spat them out and now won't even take one in his mouth as he recognises them. Next tried betta flakes, and same again. He does like frozen bloodworm but I only feed that twice a week and I did give them live daphina and brine shrimp in the week which he liked.

So I was worried that he wasn't getting enough food when the other night before bed I noticed him flaring at the cories. He was trying to get at their algae tablets and he did suceed and was chomping into them! Hadn't noticed this before as I usually put the tablet in when I put the lights out. I put 2 in now so he gets one and so do they. Is it ok for him to be just eating these? I have 3 different types which I alternate through the week so at least he's getting variety

No..Bettas are meat eaters. Some will learn to eat pellets and flakes, but they prefer meat..frozen BS, Mysis, and daphnia..then give the other to give variety. Keep trying the pellets and flakes too.. He may adjust.
