Hey everyone,

So i bought a 75 gallon the other day, and its been a nightmare. First got it home and noticed the stand had a piece missing in the bottom corner and so took it back to Big Als then got new stand brought it home, started filling aquarium and the unthinkable happened. IT LEAKED. Water came under the black seams in the corner. So, took it back and they gave me a new one. Anyway, all set up now and now i am paranoid of anything happening, to the point of maybe taking it back. I live in a condo building and don't need it breaking, lol.
So, filled up new aquarium about half way and left it so i could do some planting. Anyway, the wood stand keeps creaking (every few minutes), not loud but noticeable. I put a level on the aquarium and its perfect. Is it normal for the wood to creak for a while? With my luck and this tank, the stand will give way.

Appreciate any opinions, thanks so much

Pictures would be helpful, I take it the stand was designed for the tank you bought, as in did it come as a package.
I can't say I noticed any creaking sounds from my stand it is a 200 liter tank and is around 225 kilos in weight.
It is unfortunate that you had these issues together and can understand your trepidation.

Steve.

creaking every few minutes doesnt really make sense to me, since creaking usually comes from movement, maybe its your filter making a funny sound? ive heard filters make interesting sounds.

if your stand is creaking, something is probably up, how would two peices of wood be rubbing on eachother with enough movement to make a sound, in a solid stand? that sounds very bad imo.

Thx for replies. I will take a picture. The tank is not going yet, so no filter going and only half full. I thought maybe since its first time filling up that wood maybe settles with the gaining of weight. Maybe i'm wrong though and its the floor underneath (hardwood and then cement) adjusting to the weight.

If you have placed the tank stand in a weak area of your floor, you might well be moving the floor itself. I would not want to allow that to continue in my own home. Another possible noise source is as Airborne suggested that the stand itself could be moving. If you have a stand made of one of the man-made wood materials like fiberboard and it got wet with the earlier leak, it may indeed be moving. Those man-made glued materials are not suitable to use wet, ever.
