i never realized gouramis had such character. i have two gold and two opaline. well, this weekend when i was removing the juvie molly fry from the gourmai tank (they were starting to harass the gouramis and were finally big enough for the lfs to take so i evicted them). of course the all mighty evil net was in use. as i was collecting the babies one of my gouramis, and i didn't catch the culprit, spit water at me and hit me right in the eye!!!! the little sh*t  .
i've also noticed that when i feed them, they make a clicking noise at the surface.
and my one gold has developed and unhealthy fixation with the thermometer and likes to "flick" it against the side of the tank.
crazy fish

Hahaha!! Omgosh! He has really good aim!! My dwarf gourami spits at me - isn't it a hilarious thing?! I almost fell over backwards the first time he did it!! :D Anyways, both of my dwarfs have obvious personalities too, I think it's a gourami thing too. ;)

I was getting a bit fed up with reattaching my thermometer to the tank 5 times a day. Every time I check on the tank it was floating around. I was going to buy a new one but caught my new gourami detaching it. He likes playing around it, swimming between it and the glass and nudging it around.

If it's a boy it might be trying to create a nest. I've noticed that mine make nests in any small area they can find. I didn't even realise that they wanted to nest until I put a fry net in my tank for my guppy fry, then came back the next day to find a bubble nest between the net and the glass of the tank. There would have been maybe a 1cm gap. He has been using this spot ever since. It's even quite amusing to watch him fill the gap with bits of plants.

Is there any certain way to make them do it. I have many gouramis and have had them for a while but never saw any of them spit. My Paradise Gourami does jump out of the water and grab food from my hand though..

Thats too funny that it spit at you! Mine have never done anything like that, but when I stick my hand in the tank to fix a plant or something, they do rub against my hand :D I hope that means that they like me

If that's what he's doing, how can I arrange he tank to make it easier for him? Do you need a long, narrow gap for him or what? I have a pair of dwarf neon gouramis and a pair of dwarf red gouramis so would have to provide accommodation for them both.

To make a nest you need a quite sheltered space, and a ripe female in the tank doesn't jurt either.

I belive that I read gouramis can spit at food that may be flying over them in the wild. They hit the flying insect, it lands in the water and bon apitite!

guess i must have looked tasty that day

my powder blue dwarf spits quite a lot, particularly if he's hungry and i'm cruelly holding some food just above his head!

he also jumps at the food in such situations...
