Alright I've been looking into getting some crayfish but I'm having a lot of trouble researching them!
People keep telling me that they need brackish water, heated but not too much, extra picky diet, blah blah blah.

However, I've observed the crayfish in a nearby river who live perfectly healthy in freshwater, often cold enough to ice over a bit, and eating pretty much anything!

I'm so confused

Crayfish don't need brackish water at all.... Weird people would tell you that?

Do you live in the UK?

If not, do you know what species of crayfish you want to get?

depends on the Crayfish. australian Redclaw do very well in, up. to 5ppm. and it does help reduce the bacterial, weakness all cray have. but few, aquarium, cray live in, and none need, brackish.

as for picky eaters? well some are, though that tends to be down to an incorrect diet. cray need, when mature, a mainly veg, rotted, diet. only a small amount of protein/meat, should be fed. many see cray as a "hunter/carnivore (nothing could be further from the truth) and feed as such. now if you liked veg, and all you were fed was meat, would you not be a bit picky about, which, of it you would eat?
take a trip to www.crayfishmates.com. there you will get "information" not hearsay and myth!
