Cracking Down On Flamming.

I sort of wondered the same thing... I wondered since when did flaming have two m's... Flam-ming.... hehehe...

Ok, I was just joking around before, but now I'm seriously curious... Is "flamming" the British spelling of flaming? Or are we talking about people giving out bad information and I just missed the whole point of this thread?
lol no man you got the point :D it means the same thing. it seems some members have problems defending themselfs, in type, when things are put forcefully, to them. so were requesting, effectivly, a new rule to help them!!!

Flaming has one "m" no matter what country you're in. "Flamming" apparently is a word, but means to use deceptions or lies and cheating. I've never heard/seen it used so it must be archaic English.

edit: stupid typos

I can think of three people right off the top of my head who were suspended this week, by the mods, for flaming (two by me). This is common procedure that we've been using since Will upgraded the board last year and gave the mods these abilities.

So, I guess my point is that we DO take action towards extreme flamers , maybe the masses just don't notice it? So I'll chime in with the crowd that is tired of these sort of threads, I am too. The abusive are punished, there's nothing more to be done.

Ya, I linked to the definition of "flamming" earlier in the thread, and I guess it could apply to a forum like this, so that's why I thought I'd ask... Now that I know, flame on fellow fish keepers!

Google came up with this link for flamming first; http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=flamming

I don't think it applies in this situation. Flim-flam is slang for a con or con artist game. The derivation of the term "flim-flam man", meaning con artist, is debated, but may come from the 1930s law firm of Flam & Flam, lawyers of less-than-sterling repute in the immigrant neighborhood of 165 East 121st St. in New York City. Flamming would probably refer to deception, I think we all know what flaming is as concerning the internet.

From above link
2. flamming

A word used to dicribe something hot or very kewl(often followed by the word homie g, or just g.

This song is flaming g!
he didn't use two m's in his dicription

lol does it really matter what the dictionarys say, even newbies know what Flamming/flaming, is, in this situation. even with a dictionary definition, it would still be up to each individual mod to decide. it would appear that though flaming does go on in the forum, it is dealt with so quickly that most of us dont notice. which sounds horribly like out mods do a very good job.

The Urban Dictionary, by its very inability to even spell words properly, disqualifies itself as a useable or accurate source of word description.

Regardless, it still decribes [sic] flamming as being homosexual, not a deliberate attack on someone, though I suppose calling someone a homosexual could be seen as an insult by some people, not in this case though.

Flaming and flamming therefore, are two different things. :p

I always took flaming, (not falmming because that could piss off the Flemish folks out there ROFLMAO ). ) flaming is to burn someone verbally, to harasse them which in turn gets more people on them about something they've posted. This is how I take flaming since way back when.

Ugh, just look back at my definition of "flamming". We don't need to go to urbandictionary.com to get it. It means to deceive, to tell a lie, that sorta thing. So it is different from flaming, which is what this thread is about.

Mod's edit: Please watch your language! This is a family oriented forum.

Everyone has opinions on everything but some people don't know how to express them in a way that doesn't make them come off like something I'd get in trouble calling them. :p

You do need a thick skin on the internet, but you shouldn't need armor plated skin and some of the comments I've seen in the past around here do go too far. It fortunately hasn't been that bad lately, from what I've seen, but I'm far less active these days too.

Cant say I've seen a lot of it in the marine sections
