Please help,

I woke this morning to find a large puddle on the floor, overnight the bottom of my tank has cracked
I have finally managed to empty the tank , but am now stuck with fish in a very small tank, but emergencies called.
It is about a 45 cm crack in a 3ft tank, so is almost from half way down the middle all the way to the end.
Can i just buy a piece of glass to cover over the crack and seal it in , or do you think i will have to go out to get a new tank?

Please help. Not much time to decide what to do , but unsure.

Thanks

Chris :/

You do need to find out why teh tank cracked in the first place.

Is it level all the way round? Use a spirit level for this. Also did you have polystyrene at the bottom of your tank - between its base and the surface it sat on? Keeping the tank level is important so that the weight distribution across the base and sides is even - otherwise it twists slightly and cracks.

If the things above are "ok" then it may well just be a manufacturing fault in the glass.

Personally, if you can, go back to the place where you bought, esp. if recently, and get it replaced (free if possible!).

I personally wouldnt add extra bits of glass and stick them in as it will never be as strong as the original base.

Hope this helps a bit

Hello Chris and welcome to the forum. :hi:

Sorry to hear about your problem. I would agree with the othr CHris that you should find out what caused it (if possible). If the tanks new, I would think it was probably already cracked slightly and the water pressure just made it worse. I don't think putting another piece of glass over it will solve the problem. You will most likely have to replace the entire back piece of glass if that is possible. You maybe can get some tips on that in the Do It Yourself section.
