Thank God for this website!

After reading the suggestions in the posts here, I took my brand new 24g deluxe nano cube out to my patio to do the leak test. After filling it with fresh water, and checking that the lights and pump worked, I unplugged everything and just let it sit. A few hours later I was walking past it, and noticed the ground was all wet - the tank had cracked from the top corner down to just above the bottom seal in the middle, and the water was trickling out. I couldn't believe it! I had read about tanks cracking, but thought that it was just an unusual occurance, and it wouldn't happen to me. Well it did. I'm borrowing a friend's digital camera tonight after work so I can take some photos of it.

So, this is just a "Beware" sort of post, that the nano cubes DO crack!

Sorry to hear that h20....experience is a great teacher..especially when you trust a fellow forumer. Most important thing for you to determine...is...was this tank a 2006 version or not and how did you get it? The 2006 version will have a 'born on date' and a surface skimmer. It was built with thicker glass. If you bought a 2006 and it cracked, I'd find this to be worrisome for JBJ. Let us know. SH

h20, too bad about your tank... Chris @ nanocustoms is good about making things right though. Give him a shout and you will be taken care of..

I am sorry for your monetary loss on this one. Just praise Jesus, God, Allah, Buddah, or whom ever that you had no livestock in yours. I lost almost 800$ in fish and corals when mine went. What did I get from JBJ? 250$ for the tank. Big Whoop. Stay away from them. I did however see the new aqua pod at the LFS, looked very sharp with a small halide light fixture. The glass also looked much thicker. try looking that one up.

so far the people at JBJ have asked me to send the pictures that I took. They also asked for the serial number and production date from the back of the tank, but no such thing on mine, so I'm guessing I must have a 2005 version. I took a photo of the back just to show them that as well.

The ball's in their court now, I'd be happy getting my $$ back or a new tank. This isn't going to stop me from having a beautiful SW tank in my home, it's just taking longer than expected! I'll use the time to read more of the posts here on this great site.

h20lovr...seems like you got the older version which was made with thinner glass. They are prone to cracking. I hope JBJ will honor their warranty for you. I see no reason that you can't get back into a nano cube but make SURE it is a 2006 version. SH

OK, back in business again. JBL sent me a new 2006 tank (with skimmer). I did the leak test, pump and lights work, and it looks like I'm ready to roll. Going for the water tomorrow (Barrier Reef in Boca Raton, Fl).

I've been following Ice Maiden's posts, and going to take the same route she did. thanks all for your knowledge! I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me!

I thought JBL focused on speakers
:D

If you just leak tested it, that's fine. Make sure you test with all pumps, heater, etc...you want to make sure you don't have a temp issue either before loading it up with expensive stuff. Good luck....good to know that JBJ is honoring it's warranty. SH
