crabs are brackish

Not all crabs are brackish by any means, some aren't even aquatic!

what crab species do you want to know about?

Red claw crabs (Sesarma bidens) can be kept in either freshwater or brackish aquariums, but they grow bigger and seem happier in brackish.

The tank should provide many hiding places and should be well covered.
Red Claw Crabs are amazing escape artists and will not survive more than a couple hours away from the water
Their water should be well filtered and maintained somewhere between 72 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
Like most crabs, the Red Claw Crab molts from time to time and they will eat their old shells to regain necessary calcium lost in the molting process. Without enough calcium they may lose limbs!
For this reason, most sources suggest giving them calcium supplements in addition to their regular diet during molting. Unfortunately, molting is a very stressful period for crabs and many die under the stress.
The Red Claw crab is omnivorous and will therefore eat most anything. They do well with any of the formulated sinking foods and enjoy vegetables, tubifex worms and freeze dried foods such as krill.

Because crabs are inverts, the correct place for this thread is in the inverts section.

red clawed crabs are easy to care for.

they require brackish water and a tank of atleast 3g per crab. The tank should be 2/3 land. and the water heated to around 26 C

they eat anything, fish pellets, prawns, fish, plants, bloodworm, dead fish and even dead plants from another tank.

i don't recommend keeping them with fish, they are better off in a species tank.

the tank should have plenty of hiding places. sand is the best substrate in my experience.

let us know how you get along.
