It looks like its face is deformed.

They are very active, large barbs used as food fish where they come from - only for large tanks where they can live in groups and swim in moving water.

I think the apparent deformity is due to distortion from the tank glass.

Specific species is Barbonymus altus. Can be distinguished from the other commonly traded species, Barbonymus schwanenfeldii, by the lack of 2 black stripes on the upper and lower lobe of the caudal fin.

Agree on the species. And as another member rightly mentioned, this fish needs a group or it will become skittish and often aggressive. At 8 inches/20 cm this means a 5-foot tank minimum. It is an active swimmer. And will eat smaller fish.
