Could Someone Please Confirm This Fish Please

i have managed to re home iy, it's a guy that has a 60ft heated pond! Winner
Seriously....Result, I would say as long a he has no prize livestock in there.
Good reply from m4rk above, If that is the case...and as he states I too would expect the offspring to be quite large

The guy ownes a specialist aquatic store, pier aquatics in wigan. He wouldn't give me any money for it, nor exchange it for a few small pretty fish, so, bit of an #### in that respect, but at least the fish will have a good home.

Well look on the biight side at least you found a new home for it.
Just out of interest, how much did you pay for the catfish initally.

Indeed, I was wondering this -_-
Still, at least that fish has a suitable home now :good:

I'll get rid of that and the two bala's then, that lfs is an absolute joke. I even told them i have a 200 litre tank, they said it would be fine!!!!
The LFS has said they won't take it back because they do not have the means to look after a fish that will grow that big, so they knew what they were doing when they sold it too me.
If this is really the case then please do get onto trading standards. You were mis-sold a living animal and the shop is acting illegally. You should be entitled to a refund and hopefully getting the authorities involved will help these idiots realise that they can't keep on selling these tank busters as suitable for the common sized home aquarium.

I'm with the others on this forum who are calling for legislation, however I would prefer it to come on the sellers side first. I think they should require a licence to deal in any species that grows over a certain size. Ideally, as others have said, you should also have a licence to own one, but I think that just getting them out of the LFS would be a good start and would stop most inappropriate sales. It's also easier on the admin front to deal with the traders than with the owners.

I agree. This is a much better way to tackle the situation, because when people do buy fish without a license they are going to end up with a fine for something which was not their fault (they may not have known you need a license) and the fish will have to be destroyed (killed for no good reason).
A LFS should have a license for imports over 12" in length and a customer should have to show suitable evidence of his aquarium to be able to purchase large fish. :)
