Hi

Any advice would be good!!

I set up my tank a week and a half ago and after three days of the tank being up to temperature and working fine I went and bought my first fish 2 female plattie and 1 male.
I got them home and put them in and all was fine.
Two days latter I saw one of my female platties had a sort of graze like patch on the side of her body near her bottom fins.
I read my book I have and could not see anything about grazes so went to the fish shop and they said if she was eating fine and swiming about as usual not to worry just keep and eye out.
I have now got Platty fry from my other Platty female and am worrid as this graze looks like her scales are not growing back, and I think she is pregnant.
I am doing 25% water changes and the shop said I would not have a lot to test for and to leave adding anymore fish till week 4 of the tank being set up.

I have 2 female Plattie 1 male platt and a male and female guppy that is ready to have fry at any moment.

Any clue on what my poor platty's problem is or am I just worrying over nothing??

Worrid

if the graze is white, it is likely to be fungus which needs to be treated with anti fungus meds, if it is pink or red then it probably is a graze where she has hurt herself on something, try an all round antibacterial anti-fungus to help stop the wound getting infected and keep an eye on her...

Sorry can't send a picture.

The scales have come off and it is sought of white and flaky at the edges.

It does not look like cotton wool. The patch is not getting bigger and it looks smooth where the scales have come off?

Is that OK not too sure what else to say.

This is the best photo I could get of the fungus I am treating on one of my platys at the moment. It also doesnt look like cotton wool, I havnt personally seen a fungus that does to be honest...

Thanks Nutmeg!!

I am going to get some anit bactirial med for my Platty but it is bigger than your Platties spot of fungus.

It is red and skin like in the middle of the patch which is nearly the whole of the bottom side of her tail.

I am abit worrid to put anthing in the tank though as I have 6 Platty fry that I have found and 3 are in a breeding trap and a Guppy ready to drop any min.

Thanks again

George
