I have a mature 29 gallon tank with 8 harlequin rasboras and 6 cories. I also have a 10 gallon that I am about to set up and will be putting live plants in. Will either of these scenarios work for bolivian rams? Also I have never seen them in a lfs, so does anyone know of a trustworthy internet shop? I live in the northeast part of the US.

The 29 gallon may be a little crowded for the rams
but the 10 gallon planted tank would work great for them if there wont be any other fish with them
and i dont know of any reliable internet stores that you could buy them from

To me, the best solution would be taking some of the fish already in your 29 gallon and putting them in the 10. I think this would make the rams be very happy. Preferably keeping the schools together best as possible. But either way you go the rams will be fine either way i believe.

Hope this helps

the 10g may be too small for more than one ram. In my opinion( Im no expert) they would be fine with the other fish you have in the 29g with out you needing to remove anything but stick to 2. Hope this helps. I have a pair that I found at Pet supplies plus and Petco will order them in if you ask!

awesome! I'm gonna do a little more research on them I think before I make my decision as to where they will go, but I'm very happy to here that I have options. I never asked the stores around here to special order fish, I hope they will. I'd prefer that over trying to have them shipped. Thanks for the help. Any more advice on these guys would be appreciated.

you could put a male/female pair of rams in the 29g with the existing fish, in that size tank you can't have more than a pair though.

10g would be too small, really.

+1

Your 29gal is currently lightly stocked and you could easily accomadate a pair of rams.

Yes, but US gallons seems the standard these days, personally I prefer the litre.

I wouldnt put Bolivians into a 10gal, US or UK measurement. 29 however, a pair would be fine.

i wasnt sure of the difference between us and uk, so just thought there might be a big difference lol

They are really great fish and wont mind the cories at all. Mine certainly dont.

Just be sure to provide some nice caves to hide in and some plants.

They can be aweful hard to sex until they start showing breedig behaviours & *cough* breeding tube differences. (was going to put "willies & egg tubes" but decided not to! :hey: ) I went through 3 fish until I found a female to go with my existing male. Most stores will give you store credit for returned fishies so its not too much of a waste of money to ensure you get the correct fish.

I actually find bolivians extremely easy to sex. Just check the anal fin, its a dead give away.
