Cost Per Month?

The heater(s) are only on for a total of maybe 15 minutes a day.... unless the tank is outside ! In a centrally heated house, they may never come on.

?? do you keep your tanks at 20 - 22 degrees ??

Our zeb tanks are at approx 30 degrees - the heaters are on quite a bit to keep the temp up...

Normal tropical should be around 26deg - still 4-6 degrees about room temp.

I think Rooster is about right with mine. All day long the heater goes 'click'----'click' as it turns on and off again within seconds. The 8W UV heats the water up so the 200W heater doesn't need to. lol

Theres a saving buy a UV its cheaper on electricity than a heater. he, he (although it does run all day long) This means the UV costs me £6.52 a year(24hrs/day) and the heater £6.79 (1hr/day). Now thats what I call a saving!!!!

Just checked my tanks using a power meter, to check the power consumption:

Trop88:

14W with just filters running 24hrs a day
50W as above, with lights on 8hrs a day
200W as above, with 150W heater on unknown period of time per day

Using a rough guess that the heaters are on 2hrs total per day, cost = £31 per year
Using a rough guess that the heaters are on 4hrs total per day, cost = £41 per year

150W Heater costs me £5.00 per year for each additional hour they are on.

4'6":

22W with just Fluval 304 and powerhead running 24hrs a day
110W as above, with lights on 8hrs a day
310W as above, with one of 2 x 200W heaters on unknown period of time per day

Using a rough guess that the heaters are on 2hrs total per day, cost = £52 per year
Using a rough guess that the heaters are on 4hrs total per day, cost = £65 per year

A Single 200W Heater costs me £7.50 per year for each additional hour they are on.
