Does anyone know how to work out ROUGHLY how much it costs to keep a tank running? I have:

2 Aqua one CF1000 extenal filters that are rated at 21.5 watts each
4 bulbs that are rated at 40rwatts each
2 heaters that are rated at 200 watts each (i know that would just be a guess without sitting here watching them go on and off!)

so all in all its 603 watts (assuming everything is on 24/7)

The filters are on 24/7 obviously, the lights about 10 hours a day and no idea on the heaters as one seems to be on more than the other

It would just be nice to know how much its actually costing thats all!

I was once sad enough to calculate this... came in at about £1.50 a week, or as I saw it, not even a pint ! -_-

a 1W device left on for a year costs roughly £1....

so a 40W heater costs £40 a year ~ £3/month (but then it's not on all the time, so probably only £2/month)

that's a starter anyway ;)

thanks for that link :good:

well assuming my heaters are on 7 hours a day (as in 24hours, not 12) then it costs £216.98 a year!!!

but i dont know how much i get charged for electric so that could change, £20 a month seems alot but like hell am i gonna change it to a smaller one, if anything i'll be getting another bigger one aswell!

TBH though i doubt the heaters are on for 7 hours a day, more like 4 or 5 i would guess?

who was it that said

"if you have to ask what it costs, you can't afford it...."

think it was either CFC or smithrc in reference to a Fish House !!!! :shout:

The heater(s) are only on for a total of maybe 15 minutes a day.... unless the tank is outside ! In a centrally heated house, they may never come on.
