Hi

I have 2 panda cory's in my 20 gallon and I was going to get more but my friend (xXMrBonesXx) bought the rest of them from my LFS and they barely ever have them there :grr:
so since they need to be in groups of 3 or more, could I put a different kind of cory in there to take place of the panda cory's that I was going to buy? the only cory's I see in my LFS are the Elegans Cory Cat, would they get along with my panda cory's?

Thanx :*

Hi Whiskerz :)

Pandas are smaller and a bit more shy than many other corys. They are best kept by themselves but that is not a strict rule. Since most corys are bigger then them, they tend to separate into their own groups more often than not. If your lfs will get more, or will order them for you, it would be good to wait for them.

If you can't get more pandas, the C. elegans might be a good choice for tank mate since they too are small corys. If you get them, please let me know how they work out together. :D

Here's a link with information about them:

hi Inchworm,

Thanx for the quick and helpful reply :D

I'm going to look around different LFS's to see if they have any Panda's

If I get a different kind of Cory I will let you know if they work out together ;)

Heya

I couldn't find pandas for a while either, finally I just asked my lfs staff if they were ever gonna get any again, and they very kindly ordered some specially for me. :) So that might be worth a try.

Well I went 45 minutes away from where I live and I still couldn't find any Panda's at the 2 LFS's I went to  ....but, I did get 2 different kind of Cory's and so far they get along fine with the Panda's, they even swim together some of the time, but if nothing goes right... I have 2 more tanks I can put them in.

This is what the 2 new ones look like (this is not an actual pic of them, I got it off a website but they look identical to this one)

So this would be a Peppered Cory? -_-

Hi Whiskerz :)

Yours are indeed C. paleatus or peppered cory.

These are very popular fish and have an interesting history, having been discovered by Charles Darwin. They will get along fine with your pandas although the size difference might keep them from playing together once they become adults. If this is the case, it will just be a matter of personal preference on the part of the pandas and nothing to worry about. :D

You shouldn't have any troubles at all with this mix. My pandas get along fine with all my other corys but they do like to go it alone the biggest part of the time while the others mix and mingle.
