I now understand why everyone loves these little guys! Just bought 2 because I didn't want to get some ammonia madness, in a couple of days I'm going to buy 2 more!
Then another 2. Can't wait!

Ever since I've joined this forum, I've been starting to wish I had cories. Unfortunately it may be a few good years before I can get a tank to fit a group of them. :(

LOL @ the pigs fly quote in your signature X))

I totally love my cories. They make me smile everyday and I'd have so many more if only I had a bigger tank :)

You can fit a group of corys in a 20 gallon no bother.
A lot of people here say you need 10 for them to thrive, and I'd go for either albinos or the ones like in your avatar, which would look better than albinos on my white sand.

I've never heard anyone give 10 as the ideal number, are you thinking of otos or pygmies? Even then I'm not sure about a minimum number of 10. But hey, I haven't been in the game very long!

Picking this thread since it's actually cory related X))
I forgot where, but some people said that you need a minimum of 10 cories (non-pygmies) for them to be happy. I need to browse the threads I've posted in to find those posts about cory minimum numbers.

EDIT: Never mind, saw the huge amount of posts I've got to go through and died. *upside down fish icon needed*

I've been doing various google searches and everywhere I look says 5-6 is a fine number for corys

10 isn't necessary, but a nice number. I have 8 and 7, and they all get on fine. 6 is considered the minimum, but the more the better. They do tend to stick together in small groups when swimming in the open. There's nothing like seeing a swarm of 30 of them patrolling big tank floor. :) Its a shame they're getting so expensive. With Sterbai hitting £10 each in some places, you'd need deep pockets.... They're pretty overlooked as a species, some fish stores sadly sell them in pairs etc as "clean up crew". Shame really. They're much more interesting than that.

I never liked the look of most Cories I've seen, but I have never seen a peppered one, I just thought, 'They look overly awesome' Went home, did some research and went to the shop and bought them!

Another cory convert, welcome to the cory lovers club :)

It was in a thread here, I'm sure. Someone was like:
"Keeping fish in an absolute minimum is cruel blah blah... Cories should be kept in 10+ to really be happy." and then some others agreed with that poster.

Well that's a ridiculous statement really because in that case we'd all be keeping single species tanks because all schooling fish are meant to be in large groups and of course more is better with them but you can forget community tanks in that case! Unless you've got an 8 footer :p

Forget that 8 footer... I want a gigantic room with a tank taking up 90% of it AND allowing me to swim in it.
Tank filled with corys, hoplos and maybe a plec or two, and swordtails, lots of them, for the top. X)) And maybe a few bettas here and there.

Well i must be a really bad fish keeper, cos i've 70 ish corys in a 4 footer (55 gals) - naughty me!!! not enough floor space i hear peeps cry....

Saying that i have 2 big externals and they have a large w/c & sand clean without fail every week... and how many have i lost in the 3 yrs i've been keeping them that is a massive total of 3!!!

Although i wouldn't recommend keeping that many unless you have good maintainance & filtration

I forgot to say - welcome to the cory club jakey :good:
