Hi,

Before i purchase my 'Albino Corys' i just need to know whether this piece of bogwood would be ok for them to hide under as ive heard they are alot happier when they have a good place to hide.

I would like to have a 'cave' like feature aswell as the large piece of bogwood, maybe in the corner by the filter/heater housing or over the other side. How do you make your 'Caves'? large stones? slate?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

That will be fine.

Making a cave is also a good idea, but i wouldn't worry to much as i find corrys don't spend a lot of time if any hiding.

Nice piece of wood. You can send it my way, if you find it doesn't work for you.

Actually all my Cories appreciate a nice place to hide and watch, even in my Cory only tanks. Some species also like to get away from the light. Some species, like C. melanotaenia, are so shy and delicate that they are at danger of not thriving at all and need a hiding place. Mine are in a very private spot with no aggressors, and yet they still stay out of sight most of the time.

Some species are bolder and come up to stare at you, but they all want a place to call their own. That wood may do it though. You will be able to tell once they are homed. If they need a cave or a nice big Amazon Sword (which seems to be a favorite of many fish) to hide in, it will be apparant that the wood isn't sufficient.

I paid only $10 for my 1 ft mama Amazon. It was $25 before sale. It would have been a bargain at $25, but it was a steal at $10.

Thanks jollysue!

Yea i thought the wood looked alright too, best 1 i could fine at both my LFS and it was £12.95. Il have to wait and see if the corys use it :)

What is the measure of the wood? That is a very attractive piece and with a nice start of Java moss, too! Your cories will like it. They will delight you when they peek out from under the moss and watch you.

I can't say what the prices are in the UK. I get my best bargains usually on the net, but sometimes my lps or lfs will make me a deal. :shifty:

Thanks, its length is approx 13", Height is approx 7.5" and depth is approx 6". Its my first time with live plants and the java moss is looking quite good at the minute. Im hoping it will cover abit more of the wood eventually.

Great piece! Wonderful size! Good choice! The Java will do well for you. If you can pick up a piece of Java fern it will also make good on the wood. If you wrap a bit of thread around the wood to spread the moss over it and on it, it might spread faster before it begins breaking off to find new hunting grounds. I doubt you will need another cave for now. You may want to add one along the way, but that should do nicely for a great group of cories.

Ok thanks for the advice.

As the piece of wood is quite large i thought it would have been abit big for my tank as its a 22g but doesnt look to bad. Theres a picture of the wood in my tank in the 'Members aqaurium and fish pictures' section at the very top of page 3. I would add a link but not sure how to yet.
