Hi all,

Went to a fish shop on my way home from college :) got sent home due to snow weeee, like being a kid again  so anyways, i was in the shop and the guy was asking the size of tank and what fish i like/keep. Told him 4ft, 45G, Love corys, got 7 4 about an inch, 2 about 2 1/2 inch and a beast of 3 inch and he told me that they would deff need a bigger tank  I told him i had 2 rams, 2 angels, the neons and sissortails and the corys and that the tank was nearing its stocking level if not slightly over but nothing really to worry about for the corys... He told me that corys tend to better in a group of 4 or 5 and that having 7 and esp having bigger ones they wouldnt interact very well and they would pair off in 3's and a few will be left alone... So i said well in that case i could get another 2 and then that would be 9 and they would group as 3 lots of 3's (just being ***** at this point really) Is there any truth in what this guy is saying?

On a nicer note, was down at the aquatics club last night and one of the members is trying to get me to sell my corys :S offered £20 for the big guy and £15 for the other two... Would be great for xmas but not a chance, love the little/big guys/gals

I think your lfs guy is out to space lunch. Cold weather froze his brain synapses.

I think the angel will have to be rehomed eventually. I don't know about the sissortails, but they all sound fine to me otherwise.

Print a pic of Inchworm's grow out tank and take it to him. I have NEVER heard such hogwash.

Wow! Good offers! What cories does he want? Nah! Getting good healthy stock is more work than it seems. Keep them.

The Sissortails are off to the fish store maybe this weekend or next, just need to wait till the guy has enough room for 15 of them :S They are peppered corys :)

Never seen Inchworms tanks before...

Check these sweeties: Inchworm's black C. aeneus tank

You have to scroll down to the pics. Do they look lonely, unhappy, worried about trios?

I love my little Peppers

So you have 7 peppers? Someone iffered you about $37 for a 3 inch pepper? Awesome!

haha

I just checked. I thought you said 25 pounds :*) So closer to $30. Good going. Must be healthy and vital.

Yea! Inchworm knows how to get her cories working for her. They no sooner get in a tank than they start spawning for her

hes feeding you a line of you know what. ive kept cories succesfully in groups of one, two, four, and 8. they dont really need a certain number

Sorry to say: He's an idiot! And very confused. Probably talking about cockatoos. =}

I NEVER have heard anyone recommend less that 3 and most who have seen their behaviors recommed a minimum of of 5 of the same species, although some species can be mixed and will school together.

Apparantly from clueless, I understand he thinks they school in 3's and an odd fish gets left out and ostrasized!   :look: ^_^

i dont recommend it but its happened before and they were fine through the whole thing. i had a single panda cory stay healthy, then i added a second and they were fine and i added a third and they were OK for a while but then all died within an hour of each other

I'm finding that these sensitive fish like pandas are really sensitive to water quality. If you add to that the stress associated with insecurity or whatever, it's a recipe for loss. I am always doing some stupid thing that the fish pay for.

I tried putting a nylon over a filter intake to protect the Betta's fins. The next morning the tank was cloudy. It took me awhile to figure it out. Meantime I lost a cory. :-( They just come up to the front and look at me: "What are you doing?" they ask.

I always did have fun listening to the LFS people telling me what to do when I know its wrong. They always make you feel bad like when I was at the LFS trying to stock up my 10 gallon they said that I couldnt fit 8 tetras ALONE! They were saying that they would grow up to be 3 inches & there only neons. Then they dont let you bye them, then it gets to the point where I have to lie to get fish. I say that I have another 20 gallon that im going to put them in *sigh* But all for a good cause... :D
