We have 5 albino corys who have been in the tank for 2 weeks(planted ,sand substrate). They are reasonably active but they rarely stick together. Occasionally 2-3 might be sleeping upside down in the java moss(trying to frighten me thinking they are dead) but otherwise swim or sit in different parts of the tank (280L-had since march). They eat a good varied diet.
Is this normal or are they social misfits??

mine used to shoal everywhere togeher (6 sterbai) but since they got there own tank they do have there moments where they dont stick together, but they will occasionally meet up and have a swim together....

i have 4 panda cory. they usually just stay in pairs. they only shoal together usually during feeding time. i dont there is anything wrong with yours

I've seen that myself with some of mine and I'm not sure why.

But, I've just moved my 5 atropersonatus from their 25 gallon tank to a bare bottom 10 gallon quarantine tank. The current is probably stronger in the 10 (Aquaclear 20 & Aquaclear 150). Now they are shoaling a lot. On top of that they like to swim through the bubble wall that's lying in the centre of the tank. They are behaving quite differently.

Try increasing the current in your tank, maybe get a power head or try putting a bubble wall air stone in the middle.

With all of them I've noticed that when I refill the tank after a water change they love to swim in the current that's created by the filler hose (I pump the pre-treated water in from 5 gallon pails). So maybe it is the current.

Cheers.
