Hi all

I'd like some corys for my 30ltr tabk, IF it's advisable.

Which species and how many could I have?

Thanks x

2 Amano shrimp and a rescued male betta (who should be rehomed soon)

Oh ok cool. Well pygmies would be cool. Obviously if you like them or maybe even a shoal of some of the other smaller species, like sterbai. I reckon would be able to have around 8, obviously dependant on what specie and final stocking plan.

Ohh I like both of them, would 3 of each be ok or should I bump it up?

Sterba's are too big/stocky for a 30l in my opinion unless it's only a cory tank. And yes you would be wanting more than 3 of any corys species. 5+ is the recommended number.

I'd personally go with a bigger group of just one specie. If it was me I'd go for the pygmies. Its quite a small tank, so it may suit them better. Obviously because they are smaller, you could probably have more of them too. The bigger the group, the more social and at ease they are. Just my opinion though.

I can understand your opinion, and you are propably correct. They stay quite small and I think if there was enoguh swimming room for them, I think a group of six would be happy.

Well the thing with the sterbas is that they will be happy enough (I'd have thought), with the footprint of the tank. But as corys go they are quite short but very stocky so if it was going to be a mixed species tank (as opposed to a sterba cory tank) then so have a decent number you'd probably want to avoid tank mates to allow you to have a large enough group.

However having said all that, I just plain wouldn't put them in anything short of a 2ft long tank.

Thats fair enough. They are stocky, I was thinking length more than anything. Im not too sure of the op final stocking plans also.

I brought 3 julii corys, neither of the 2 LFS by me had pygmy corys  I came home, put them in my 30ltr and the male betta went crazy. So they are now in my 60ltr with the Khulis and betta sorority. I'm going back tomorrow to get 3 more.

Once mr.betta is rehomed, I'll have to think about stocking the 30ltr, I could take the 6 Juliis from the 60ltr? I was thinking about rasboras for the upper section or some nice blue guppies i saw in the LFS?

Your so lucky! None of my lfs sell them! :-(
Could you post some pics when you get them into thier 30 litre tank?

lol 30 litres is rediculously small for Julli Corys, let alone sterbai corys

Let's not get carried away now. This tank only holds about 8 gallons of water. It's quite small.
