Hi All

I have a 12Uk gallon tank (dimensions 24" x 12" x 12") with 6 small platys in it at the moment, and would like something else, was thinking of Corys as i think they are so cute :D , but have a couple of questions.

Do you think i have room?

And if so which type would be best?

Claire :D

I would think small shoal would be fine as long as the fitration your using is suitable. As the fish in the tank already are top/middle swimmers and the corys are bottom.
Id personaly stick with bronze and albinos as these stay nice and small and also look great.

Cheers for that :)

How many would you consider a small shoal?

Bronze and albino bronze are the biggest cory going getting to 3 inches long. You would be better off with pygmaeus, hastatus or habrosus if you can find them as they only get 1.5 inches max the pygmy staying at 1 inch. If you do this it will allow you to have a bigger group of corys.

In captivity (other than 200gallon plus tanks) it would be very unlikely to even get to 2". I have a 3year old bronze cory in a 125uk gallon tank and its possibly just a nats over 1" (including tail)
Id go for at least 4.
:)

Cheers all.

Will have a look when im out later at the LFS and see what they have, or can get in for me, but i will make sure i get at least 4 :D

Cant wait.

Corys can live for donkeys years its not unheard of for them to reach 30. Yours still have growning to do. I have seen bronze corys in my LFS at 3 inches long that someone had brought in after their owner had died they were pretty old. My biggest bronze cory is 2 inches long and i have only had him 5 years. He lived the first 4 in a 29 gallon and now is in the 180 litre tank.
