i bought 3 corys today 1 albino, 1 leopard or peppered and 1 bronze cory. they all looked fine in the tank at the store it's only when i got them home i noticed my bronze has a white edging on his dorsal fin and 1 of his pectorial fins.

Just wondered what i should do, whether to take him back to the shop where they properly distroy him (i dont want that) or treat him at home with some treatment, can i use melafix on corys or any other treatmnts?

Please help me im really upset. trust me to have a dogey one!!!

Melafix isn't just a wonder medicine that helps all time :p Putting medicines to no purpose into tank means always bad: Bacteria could come resistant and fishes could die - every medicine is toxin for them.

What about checking water values? Many "diseases" go away, when water values are good and fishes get enough nutrient and vitamins. If its fins are badly "broken", then you should probably medicate it in another tank (don't medicate healthy fishes).

Hi bigfish, is the edging a fuzz, or is it possably the fin healing from previous damage? If you do need to medicate with melafix I believe I've read posts recomending half dosages for scaleless fish. Luck to ya

Strange you should say that because the white edging has disappeared since i put him in the quantine tank but i didnt add anything to the tank because i wanted to read your advice first. However the fins are slightly spilt (do you think that could of been from the net?) but arent split all the way down to the fin base.

He seems quite happy eating away at the bottom of the tank floor as he manage to get some flake that escaped from the guppies!!!! lol :D

But i will keep an eye on them all to see if any other probs arise.

Sounds like a previous wound to me  , I noticed similar on Sharkie after he got chewed up by the Pictus cat I had...he healed up in a week or so with no problems :D

Pufferpack how good are you at identfying corys? the spotted 1 i bought yesterday is really cute but im not sure if he's pepper or leopard cory. the label just said assorted corys!!! (very helpful) i went and asked the bloke who netted my fish. Is that a pepper cory or leopard cory and he said i dunno!!!!

He's small about an inch in total length, whitey grey colour with black mottled sort of appearance, i checked out fish profiles under these two but doesn't look like either im trying to get a pict posted but cam not very good.

 corys i should of got some ages ago!!!

SOunds like it could be a Pepper that is stressed, they will stay pretty stressed unless there are more cories to keep him company. I'm not too familure with most of them, just the ones I have...but you're in luck ;) We have 2 Pepper cories, and 2 Albino's...cutiest little hyper guys :hyper: ...If you check my Not Puffer Pics post you can see Salty (the smaller one) fighting with the snail for an algae pellet
...It's not too clear in that pic, but they have some irridescence around the gill area that looks green in the right light (very pretty)...I have some better pics at home that I can post in the AM.
In the meantime try a PM to Cryosi or Gibbo, they should be able to help with the ID

Bingo he is a Peppered Cory or Catfish. and he is a male because he has a long dorsal fin. :D Cheers fishdude for those links.

Thanks everyone!!!

I named him Pepper
My Albino is called Snowy
My bronze cory is called Bandit.

I'm going to get some more because they are soooo cute and adorable.
