I have 6 C. Sterbai in a quarantine tank and am in the process of setting up a 75gal planted tank and would like to know what kind of substrates everyone has there Corys on. I am particulally interested in specific planted substrates such as Flourite and Eco-complete and specifically if anyone has notice any barbel damage on these substrates.

I am als curious if anyone has corys on either black coal gravel or black quartz gravel (the type that looks almost like black fragments of glass, but has a quite small grain size) and if they are ok on this.

I am aware sand is the best substrate for the fish but i would like to get a substrate which is beneficial for my plants too.

If you put a layer of fertilizer under the sand then the plants should grow just fine in sand too. I have my corydoras on smal fine rounded gravel. It's very important that it's rounded or it could harm the barbels and mouths of your corys so the black coral sand if it's sharp might not be such a good idea.

Oh yeah and very jealous I would love a bigger tank goodluck in setting it up!

personally i would go for sand when i first got the cory they had round gravel a couple of days later i switched to sand looks so much better IMO and they love it
