Corydoras Indented Tummy

I thought as the nitrogen cycle happened the end product nitrate would raise as the other two are converted into it. I know plants use some up but not sure how much which would bring the concentration down but surely you would expect a higher concentration of nitrate in the tank than tap water. Im guessing the concentration is high in the tank though so i will do another water change. But do you know how much is usually reasonable in a tank?

Your tank nitrate reading should be around 20 to 25 if you keep up with gravel vacs and water changes.
Plus the live plants will help keep the reading down.
