I was doing my weekly water changes today as usual, and as I was siphoning the gravel when one of my generally unassuming cories zipped up, tapped me on the hand with its nose, and immediately zoomed back down again to ignore for the rest of the time. Odd, seeing as not even my marigold sword has ever done anything of the sort, and she's the boldest fish in the tank. Of course, the cories seem to be the only fish that really couldn't seem to care less about my little intrusions into their tank. Sometimes when I'm siphoning, I actually have to sort of push them out of the way of the siphon.

Idle speculation, I know, but I can't help but wonder what the motives were behind that little gesture when the cories usually pay no attention to me whatsoever. Just wondering, but does anyone else's cories ever act like that? Any guesses as to why mine might?

Pretty much all of my fish take little "nips" at my hands and arms.
I havent actually had a cory do that yet, but my plecs, guppies, mollies, platies, bala's, dojo, and my freakin' goldfish do it all the time.
its funny cause most of em take little nibbles on the hair on my arms and I can feel them actually tugging on them.
My tetra's, rainbow shark, rasbora's and electric blue crayfish generally run and hide when my hand/arm enters their tank.
I like the fact the crayfish hides!

Even my guppy fry will pec at my hands!

Well, all of my fish are generally much too shy for that; it wasn't really what you could call a "nibble" either. I don't know what it was.

Maybe it was showing some kind of affection. I don't think fish are as brainless and lacking in "feelings" as I once thought. My fish seem to look at me as if they know me a bit. I also read on this forum about fish hanging on to food for some time to prevent the other fish from taking it. Basic survival, but it must take some small degree of thought. :) Also when you first bring fish home they are scared and nervy but they soon settle in and accept when you have to interfere in their little world !

I have one lone little freckle on my forearm. When I've got my hand in the tank pruning plants, every fish in the tank thinks that freckle is a snack...

What are you trying to say?
What did they do?

I've had a few corys do that to me before, they usually do it really fast :p

my two dead albinos (nightstalker and dory) would chase each other and swim through my hands! lol i could cup my hand and they would lay in it, it was so cute... whats even cuter than that is that my lil cories (albino ones) would kiss  it was so adorable :( i miss them,... i think im gonna get more! :Dvbut yea my metea cories like to rub on me and brutus (my panda cory) likes to nibbles on my fingers! my mollies will also nibble on my arm when im not looking!
