Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone here have been kept C. Adolfoi successfully and possibly bred them.

Since I am considering getting some of them. I was at the local fish store yesterday and saw pretty nice looking ones. They are not quite adult yet but pretty close, probably about 1 1/2" SL and healthy looking. :# And top of that, they had the lowest price I ever see around here. They usually have price tag of $19.99. Once in a while $14.99 but it was $9.99 :yahoo: :hyper: yesterday.

I hear/read that their frys are tough to raise. But how tough is it really, I wonder. ???? :fish:

So I appreciate if anyone have some first hand experience with them that you can share. :thanks:

they shouldn't be any harder to spawn then the others in your collection that you are spawning regularily.. I recommend going right back there and getting as many as you can.. they are a great fish and I am still looking for some on my end here without any luck.

Hi madattiver,

Yeah I'm pretty sure I will get me some group of 5 or so next week. Of course, I may buy more if there are only 1 or 2 left in the tank. I don't like leaving 1 or 2 behind.
From the all the research I did on internet, it sounds it is not that hard to spawn but raising frys can be tougher than regular cory frys.
Then again, I don't see them often. Especially this price around here.
I'll let you all know next week.

Adolfoi's are one of my fav corys. They are quite rare to find here in Aus. I know a place that sells them but at $45 each its abit steep :(

Hi Bozza,

$45! It must be something to do with your Country's import restriction. Also I hear/read frys can be fragile to raise. And have to watch for the details. Maybe that is why, they command the high price. More demands than the supplys.
But I'm pretty sure I will go get me some next week. Most likely on Tuesday since I saw the sign of 15% off Tuesday for freshwater fish when I was there. Hopefully they are still there.
If not, I will get some red spaghetti(blood worms) for my fish. They sure love those wiggly thing. Angels, Corys and Tetras. Pandas were jumping on them with their body and all since some of the worm can be long. It was kind of funny but they really enjoy the treat. :shifty:
It was well worth the $2. I wish the store is closer then I would get them more often for them.

I know there is always the pros and cons of feeding live food. But to me it is more pros than cons. They sure love to catch/hunt the wiggly thing. :fun: I would try to get as fresh and clean ones as possible. Beside that is one of the things, they would eat in the Nature, right?

Hi madattiver,

Oh shoot, I forgot to post about them here. Yes, I got them. Well sort of.

I went the store on Tuesday as I planned and I looked them closely at the store before tell them to scoop up for me. I realized they have thicker black line. Although I am not expert of Corydoras but they sure look like C.Duplicareus and not C.Adolfoi. Although it is marked C.Adolfoi on the glass of tank.
Then again, this happened also at the same store at same visit I notice there is one lonely C.Arcuatus in another tank and the girl didn't know what and how much. So she went to grub the owner and he told me that he thinks it is a C.Matae. I didn't argue since I know they charge $7.99 for skunk but he said $5.99 for the Matae. So I picked him(I am hoping since I have 2 females which I got for free since another aquarium society member who don't want them anymore. And they have been frisky) up. Anyway, the point is he may not know as much as me. I am not saying I know a lot but I know something about Corys.
But I already decided to pick some fish up anyway, so I did. Especially, I knew they have 15% off for fresh water fish on Tuesday. So I told the fish scooping girl that I would take them 4 if you have 4. If you have 5, I'll take 5. If you have 6, I guess I'll take 6. Anyway, they had 5 and that is just the number I wanted. Since I just hate to leave 1 or 2 in the tank. And it seems every time I buy 6, one die on me. So 5 is good number for me, it seems.

So I don't know price wise for C.Duplicareus but around $9 after the tax should not be bad. And I think they are pretty nice looking fish with clean white, dark black and volorful orange. :p So I think I like them. And I guess I have to re-research about them again instead of C.Adolfoi. ^_^

They are about 1 1/4~1 1/2"SL so I think they need little more time to grow up. But hopefully I can update with eggs report in near future. And they seem pretty tame and mellow bunch. They start foraging the sands not long after they got released in the new home. Maybe because the sand wasn't foraged out by the other fish like tank in the shop. :fun:

Hi Barracuda518,

No there is nothing wrong with them. As a matter fact, I think they might be easier to raise the frys according to the info I read. So maybe better off this way. ;)

And about the pictures. You might need to wait for a lo~~~ng time since I don't have means to post the picture at the moment. No digi camera nor decent comp that can handle big memory. I barely surf the net without it freeze on me all the time.
And I just spend good chunk of money for some, well what else "group of Corys". They are suppose to come here next week some time. Can't wait. :hyper:
So money went for fish and not for high tech stuff.
But like I mentioned somewhere, you are more than welcome to see them in person if you have chance to visit Seattle. Of course, you have to excuse the fishy mess,

My duplicareus started spawning right away. I am very fond of them. Lovely fish. They like the pandas too. I see differences in their coloration, too.

I don't think my group are not ready yet since I can't even sex yet. They all pretty much look alike ATM. -_-

Yeah, I think they are pretty fish. Then again, that is probably why they are here and not in the store tank. :D

They like the pandas too. I see differences in their coloration, too.

What do you mean? Do they like each other? And are you talking about the differences in the coloration between C.Panda and C.Duplicareus? Or among the group of C.Duplicareus?

Anyway, if I can get frys from them and C.Arcuatus. Maybe someday(hopefully not far in the future), I don't mind having big tank with C.Panda, C.Arcuatus and C.Duplicareus. That would be my Black and White group. And hint of orange.
Although I already have orange fin group, with my C.Sterbai and Albino Bristlenose pair(I know one is a male but 2nd one I am not sure yet. But I have 4 more in other tank so should have a female or 2. They are still too young to sex them) They could join with Albino C.Sterbai in bigger tank after they are quarantined. Then again, they maybe kept seperate, I don't know yet. I guess I'll wait and see how they fit.
And I will have some Green, the Laser Green Neon color soon, :hyper: I will probably keep them in dark substrate with green plants(probably Java Fern, Moss and Anubias since it probably is a lower light tank) In the dark green tank. Of course, first I need to quarantine all the fish coiming in.
I could have Albino tank also if I want to in the future with Albino Sterbai, ABN and Lutino Neon Tetras(which is not technically Albino since they do have black eyes and they are more selectively bred color morph but close enough.)
And I don't know where the C.Similis fit yet, smudge spot group? Then I only have them as smudge spot fish but Panda have spot also but different color. I might keep them with young Panda frys before sexually matured.

Lots of possibilities with more fish with more combinations. I think after next week, I will fill all the tank I have with fish except the 55G I was planning to build the show tank but probably gonna be end up with fry growing tank when the frys in 20L become too big in there. I have them running already with filter and some plants.
Still I have lots of shuffling to do in next few months. But it's cool. Lots of tank with many Corys. From frys, young and breeders. And more colors. :fish: :fish: :fish:

Can't wait those new Pre~~tty fish. And the green ones will become the most expensive fish I will have after they get here. At the moment, it is C.Duplicareus.
