Help please
I have a smallish tank 54L that I use for a quaranteen tank but it also has 3 permanent residents, a beta, a flying fox and a cory. I have just last week located two more cories of the same type (Sterbia) and added them. There was much swimming around together and a real dance going on when my lonely cory's mates arrived. Now, about five days later, my original cory has a distinct swelling on its abdomin. I hadn't noticed this before and am worried that it might be some kind of abscess. It is very central and just behind the fins that they rest on when on the bottom. I am worried about this fish and also the latest new addition as of two days ago, a green pleco. I will be wanting to move the pleco to my main tank after two weeks but i need to know about this lump. I have looked in my books and on the web re. dropsy but nothing seems to fit.
Perhaps I am being really stupid here and its a she who is now pregnant, but could that happen so fast? I got the other corys on tuesday and noticed the lump on saturday.
thanks for any help

pregnant perhaps?

Corys don't get pregnant, they are egglayers. Although, it could be that she is now carrying eggs which means you should see a spawn relatively soon. However, it could also be a sign of an underlying illness or infection, so a photo of the Cory would be helpful.

Yes a picture of the tummy would help to see if it is a lump or a swelling from eggs. A female can get so swollen that it looks like she will pop. Also at the site of where I suppose the ovipositor is it can be more swollen and white almost like a lump.

If she is full of eggs, that is one happy cory!

Sorry
haven't worked out how to post pictures yet.
Looking at some other pics I found it does look like she is carrying some eggs.
will keep you posted

There may also be a white bump that is the ovipositor. Yes keep us informed.
