I'm planning to buy six panda corys for a community tank and was wondering if they need any type of shelter to hide in. The tank (125l) will be planted and their is a large piece of bogwood which has got a good arch which some (not all) could probably settle under. would that be enough or would they need more ?, thanks in advance for any advice, Alan

I use small terracotta plant pots,on their side and half buried in the sand. They make excellent caves and only cost about 50p from a garden centre :good:

get a coconut hun and stab it with a screwdriver to let the stuff out then split it in half you got 2 caves then

thats what i done for mine even though most of them dont bother hiding and rest in the open or under the bogwood my huge snails use the coconut caves but not my corys

Hi alan3513 :)

This is an example of the easy-to-make cave that mattbond was talking about earlier:

I would caution you against keeping any kind of corys (and especially pandas) in a tank with other fish they have to hide from. While they get along great with any kind of peaceful community type fish, Corys are naturally playful and outgoing and the stress of having aggressive tank mates is hard on them.

Thanks for the advice guys. They will only be kept with small tetras and gold barbs so aggression from tank mates shouldn't be a problem, cheers,Alan

Gold barbs can be nippy in my limited experience. Right now I have my first 4 that I bought last year but I will not be getting more. They play rougher than I like in my peaceful community tank.
