Right i just wondered if cories had an ideal m/f ratio (as livebearers do for example)
at the minute i have
14 Pygmy (4female, 10male)
6 Trilii's (1female, 5male)
4 Bronze (3female, 1 male)
3 Sterbai (unsure on these hoping to add a few more tomorrow)
1 Agassizi (again unsure)

My main concern is the Trilii Female, she is getting a lot of attentoin recently, should i be looking to get a few more females?

Hi lilfishie :)

If you plan to breed them, a two males to one female ratio is desirable to ensure a more complete fertilization of the eggs. All the rest of the time it doesn't seem to matter which sex they are; they should get along fine together.

While livebearers might want to breed all the time, corys do not. When the female is ready, the males will give her attention and she will select which one(s) she wants to fertilize her eggs. Immediately afterward the eggs will appear and she will attach them to a surface. They do not mate unless they mean to get down to business, so don't worry about that. The female will not be upset.

I like to buy an equal number of males and females, but that's just my preference. It's not at all necessary.

Thanks Inchworm, i am thinking of breeding them (not sure wich ones yet though ) if my LFS still have Trilii's today when i go for the Sterbai i shall get a couple more :good:

plus i like large shoals  just need to locate some more Bronze now

A realy good selection of Cories there :)
They are one of my favourite fish, and are great to watch and breed.

If you intend to breed them, you will want to get yourself a microworm culture, this wont be needed for a long while as if your fish are new from the LFS then they are normally too small to spawn, but it wont be too long before you need it.
I have tried on a few other products to raise cory fry and microworm has had the bet results, I use it for all my fr now, as well as tetra fry flakes and also crushed tetra prima or red crumb.

Good luck with the breeding, I want to get a few more species I currenty have a shoal of 7 C. trilineatus, I would like a few more of them and then some wild bronze, C. concolor and a few others :)

lets see some pics of your cories :)

Thanks James, i will get some pictures up later on, my cories dispite being from the same lot as the new ones from the LFS are a lot bigger  need to fatten these new ones up now.

What colour are Wild Bronze's as my new one is completely different to my other 4, my old 4 have a green shine where as this new on doesn't? i'll get pics to show what i mean :good:

wilds tend to be like your original 4, they have a green shine, like brochis splendens. but the rubbish you get in most shops now are really bland flat brown colour and looks like small turds (excuse th language)

thats what this gal is, she was given to my store as her original owner couldn't care for her anymore so she came to join my group, she seems very happy/healthy and is loving her new friends (the male has taken a shine to her :hey:)

Oh they are just as healthy just too many years of inbreeding and breeding of bad stock has led to bad colouration.
If you ever get more free fish :D I have 21 tanks that need fish :D

lol
