I have a cory that appears to be loosing its tail, i noticed about a week ago that its tail looked sore and since then the tail has pretty much gone. She's now got half a tail and a sore red end.

Age wise id say its probably 2-3 yrs old now and has spawned a few times along the way.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

I thinks its fair to say she's toast.....

1. All Water stats within limits, tested yesterday.
2. A full description of the fishes symptoms. - Tail is almost missing, red marks where it once resided.
3. 20-25% every 10 days
4. No chemicals or treatments used.
5. Tank Mates - Plecos, loads of babies, guppies and a couple of glass cats.
6. Rio 240
7. No New fish.

-QT her so that it doesn't get infected. You can use a rubbermaid bin, a kritter keeper, a bucket... anything that is heated and filtered.
-Keep the water a few degrees above normal
-Add aquarium salt and stress coat
-Feed high-protein foods (live foods or frozen)
-Keep the lights off her
-Watch for signs of infection.

Her tail may not re-grow but it will heal and to the best of my knowledge she should be able to live a normal life (albeit slightly handicapped) afterwards.

Don't add salt with corys.
Bacterial med. Not melafix.

The fins are infected already if the sore on the edges.

Have you seen any of the fish nipping at the corys.

As i expected she popped her clogs last night.

No chance of fin nipping really, only plecs and some cats, they have been tank mates for yrs.

I'm just wondering if it was an old age thing. Most of my corys are 2-3 years old now. Any ideas how old they live?

They can live 5 years or over as I'm led to believe.
I have a panda cory and he's over 4 years old.
R.I.P.
