My lfs stocks the two species of corys of which I want to keep, stroke of luck :) , can anyone who has kept these species advise me which is the hardiest.. Julii or Schwartzi? :/ as I have a relatively new set up.

I boubt they are actually julii... 99% of them are actually cory trilineatus

Julii are covered solely in dots - trilineatus have dots and wiggles on their head ;)

I've not kep either but am looking at them both for breeding - so i'll be keeping an eye on this ;)

If they are - buy them - True Julii are rarely imported.

Our lfs has some in, quite big too, but the manager (a friend) said "yep they are trilineatus not tur julii. they have had them in in the past though.... I'm still on the lookout.

Haraldschultzi is another option we are looking at...

smithrc, I see you keep phantoms, do you find that maybe one or two seem to just keep in their own personal space , because i bought 6 a few weeks ago and one of em' just stays in the same space all the time, never mixing with the oters, it is a male, the others are 4 males and 1 female ( i know i sould've got more females but they only had one left) Well i'm concerned thst there is a problem , he shows no sign of illness..

Haraldschultzi? is this another hybrid of Schwartzi?

our phantoms all hang out together - in amongst the plants (versallis)

Haraldschultzi? Schwartzi? Sterbai? they are all from brazil and all look similar - who knows :)

Hi Darrk, :)

If your tank is cycled, either one of the two species you mentioned would be fine. Neither are particularly hard to keep.

Most of the jullis you see in the lfs are actually farm raised C. trilineatus. These are fine little fish, and I never did understand why anyone would want to mislabel them. :dunno:

Here's a link that shows pictures of the two so you can see the difference between them:

Haraldschultzi? is this another hybrid of Schwartzi?

Each is a separate and distinct, natural species, not a hybrid.

I didn't realise there was so much difference between the two it's easy to spot now i have those two pics lined up. Thanks for the link inchworm i know now that mine are both Juli for sure :)
