I posted ages ago about 2 corys I have that I didn't know exactly what they were, well anyway a few people suggested they were c.melanotaenia(elongate corys) but I've been looking at some pics of these on planetcatfish and I'm not 100% sure if they are, so then I was looking at gold corys but again I'm not sure if that's what they are as they are alot darker bodied then the pics I've seen. I've got a couple of pics but they don't show the colouring properly so I've taken some vids;

longer video

shorter video

I hope someone can confirm if they are either of the 2 I mentioned or if not then what exactly they are, I want to up their numbers but don't want to get the wrong type again(hence the 4 bronze corys with them)

The pics are a little blurry, but if those are bands over the eyes, then no not melanotaenia.

^They aren't pics sue they are videos, if you click on them it will play them,unfortunately I can't zoom in as it's on my digital camera and the video setting is limited. I've managed to find some old pics of them when they were in with the pandas, they just don't show how yellowy gold they are but they are clearer then the vids;

I'm going to say they are Corydoras aeneus, I think one is a standard tank bred C.aeneus and the other two are the gold form.

I say tank bred, as true C.aeneus are stunnign fish and hard to get ahold of. I did have a pic some place of a wild C.Aeneus, they look very little like what we have in the shops.

im not sure what they are im still trying to find out however i dont think they are Corydoras aeneus here is a picture of them http://www.fishbase.org/Photos/PicturesSum...mp;what=species

sorry §tudz not being rude, it may sound like it thats all :)

There are some bronze corys in with them as seen in the pics, I originally had a tank with 3 pandas, 1 bandit, 2 bronze & the 2 I want to ID. They are now in a diff tank with 4 bronze, I want to add 1 or 2 more of whatever they are, that's why I need to find out for definate what type they are, as I thought orginally that they were bronze(the original tank has no light so you couldn't see the colours properly) but I soon realised they weren't when I added 2 bronze and they looked totally different. Thanks for your help everyone :)

The image you have linked to, is an image of NORMAL C. aenues NOT the gold colour morph.

The fish shown on this thread have the same body shape and barbels as bronze cories, the only difference is colour. Other simialr species have different shaped fins or body shape.
the only other cory I can place it to would be c. melantoneia, as they have the more golden colour and a longer body shape.

As Sue says about the band, if they have bands its not them, but I think thats just a bad pic, and they dont have a band over the eye. They also resemble C. zygatus but their fins arent elonged enough and zygatus have a more matte colour to them, and darker marking along the lateral line

Much better pics. I did look at the videos, but not much more to see. I am still shy about saying they are melanotaenia. And with Studz, I am inclined toward a variety of aeneus. Something about the shading around the gills and behind the head. :blush:

There are just so many varieties of aeneus--even multiples with gold shades. I am just now looking at ordering some Neon Green Lasers that look gold to me. :blush:

Whatever they are, they are very handsome. Maybe you could get them to breed and they will give you more. Have you taken a pic to the store where you bought them to get a source? Maybe they can get you more where they got them?

I didn't buy them from a store, I bought a second hand tank and they came with it, they have shown signs of breeding, I even saw them in the t position but as far as I'm aware no eggs were produced. Oh well I'll just have to keep an eye out in my lfs for something similar, they seem happy enough anyway, the bronze in with them are really happy and they're breeding. I sometimes see one of the 2 gold ones trying to join in, she's very friendly with the bronze but the male is a bit more reserved, maybe she'll breed with one of the bronze, I'll just have to wait and see.

Thanks again everyone for trying to help ID them, just had to click edit because my toddler pressed enter when I was in the midddle of typing!

I would say C. melanotaenia, there are two forms one is a little stickier than the other. The images on planet catfish are not the best and do not show the fish in its best light. This is the best image I have right now, but it shows the potential colour, especially the fins.

Yeah that looks a bit like them except that one is alot darker, they are very very light yellowy / gold, their fins are extremely yellow, much more intense then the one in that pic. They do have a sort of green tinge down the side like that one when the light hits them It's really hard to get a photo that shows them best as it always makes them look different to what they do in person IYSWIM, but am I right in I thinking that if they aren't C. melanotaenia then it's a close enough match for them to happily accept them? Thye get on with the bronze and swim with them alot but the bronze do seem to be friendlier with each other then with the goldy ones and vice versa.

My melanotaenia are much slimmer and the body elongated. Although I have seen pics of them very golden mine are not as golden as yours.
