Once again, my aquarium is covered in Cory eggs. I decided to leave them this time as I already have 2 nursery tanks with Cory fry in them. Problem is that most of the eggs haven’t been eaten and they’ve been there since yesterday. Can they cause the ammonia to go up? Should I remove them? Another day or two and they’ll be fry in the tank. I hate to see them eaten after they’re born. I was hoping it would happen before the eggs hatched. There are probably 50 eggs on the glass. Suggestions?

Get a raphael catfish. All eggs guaranteed to be gone, probably before you even see them.

55G but I have 50 neon tetras and 20 cories in it.

Yeah, you're pretty well stocked. And Doradid catfish are predatory critters. I would not put eating neons past my two reprobates.

Set up something that is flat and about 4mm of the surface of the gravel, the cory fry will go under that and can't be found. I use a flat square sponge filter which is about 5" square and about 1' deep, it works a treat.

Do you mean 1” deep?

The sponge shelter is a really good idea, would give the fry a good chance in the parent tank

The eggs don't produce any ammonia.
Leave them to hatch in the tank. If you have lots of leaf litter and plants, the fry will be fine.
Don't get a Raphael catfish.

I was kidding about that. :) "Don't get a raphael catfish" is advice you should live by, no matter what.

Sorry for hijacking this post but whilst I was reading through this I’ve seen the posts about not having a Raphael catfish. He’s small probably 6cm and he’s not very active. I woke up a bit during the night around 4-6am and I’ve not seen him move from this log he loves to live in. What should I do with him. All of the other fish are at least half his size although I have some panda corys which are small probably 6cm. The tank is a 33 gallon around 80cm by 50cm by 45cm. GH is 290 and I’m planning on lowering this with RO water. What should I do with the Raphael?
