hi there

the bronze group of corys i got (from seanie) and added to my little group have all started spawning today
they are bronze with one little albino
lots must have been eaten cos there arent many around - about 100 -but the ones that are are now hard (not soft and squidgy like when they are first laid)- is it still ok to remove them - will they survive - i've put about 80 in a net with an airstone
there's one or two females still laying eggs

hi sarah
i take my eggs out from 1 tank to another and they still hatch even exsposed to air and put them in a container half way across the room :good:

the longer you leave them in the tank the better really as you know they harden within 15 mins they will be ok and still hatch,
i wouldent raise them in a net as food gets traped and other fish in the tank tend to eat the food through the net causeing starvation ,and bactaria builds up on nets pluss they are harder to clean ,
containes are allot better for a few a week or so to raise them in as long as you do daily water changes , but if you can put them in a bare bottom tank thats even better

regards dave

Hi pippoodle :)

Nice pictures! Isn't it a lovely thing to watch?

I agree with drewry about using a net. You can get a hard plastic specimen container if you want to keep them in the original tank. This is the kind of thing they keep bettas in at the lfs. They are inexpensive and come in several sizes. The larger ones are better because you will want to put an airstone in it to keep water circulating around the eggs. If you put the eggs on one end and the airstone at the other, it works out well.

Once the fry hatch, it's best to move them to a bigger tank as soon as possible. They grow faster and you will lose fewer of them if they have a good amount of room.

thanks for the replys
they are only in the net til they hatch then i have a rena 30 - with some gourami fry in (titchy 3 day - 2 week old gouramis) and some cherry shrimp babies (new - 2 weeks old)
It's running with a little stingray 5 filter in it (and it dont suck up any babys :) which is good) and has at least 5 water changes a week , it has a tiny bit of sand covering the bottom of the tank and some floating frogbit in it and i keep it at 22-23 degrees
So hopefully they'll be ok in there for a few weeks til they are bigger then they will move to either the hex or the rekord

SHOULD that be ok ?

the fry tank - stock photo not mine WHY do they advertise for goldies

was doing maitenance on the net - sad i know but i always run a tiny net through the breeding net daily to make sure any crap/fungused eggs are removed and i found 6 little babies - so have transferred them to the fry tank :) and they are doing well - were eating the spirulina dust and hikari first bites with the gouramis - the other eggs havent completely hatched yet but they now have tails poking out of them so wont be long .
Some eggs were added yesterday from the peppered corys
