Cory Counting?

So like.. I have cories.. but I don't know if I have them.. It seems everytime I count I don;t have the same number I had before.. if I don't see them an water quality never changed.. should i assume they are alive or dead? for instanct.. i have not seen but two of my pepper cories.. and I only see 5 of my now 9 shwartz cories.. If i don;t see them are they dead?

anyway, I havebegan to move my pepper cories and my mainconsern if leaving one in the tank with no friends.. so what should I do?

I am happy to report all the cories still exist.. Once day i went up to the tanka nd thyeya ll swam out and were nice enough to sit still for me..
