Hey guys I just bought my first cory cats today. I got three emerald/green cories. When I first got them they were white and pale, but after I put them in my tank they turned green. I thought this was a sign of them becoming less stressed. I just wanted to make sure. One minute they were white and then green. I love the guys. Thanks!

Hi Trev2004 :)

Your emerald cat is not actually a cory, but is a very close relation to them. It's a brochis. Here's a link about them:

They are very much like corys and many people confuse them. Their needs are the same and they get along and mix well with corys. I don't know about the color change, but perhaps with this new information about them you will be able to find out. :D

Hi trev2004

Yup sounds like they were stressed. When I put a new Pristella tetra in my tank it took a while before his tail was bright red. Happens with all kinds of fish. Sometimes when redtail shark shipments get into the lfs, the sharks will be grayish and won't have much red in the tail.

Your cats should be absolutely fine. If they get pale again check your water parameters quickly and you will likely need to do a partial water change.

HTH and GL!
