Cory Breeding Programme Take 2

mine spawned twice in the past few weeks, haven't done anything apart from a big water change which started the first then the second just sorta happened

hi, i had no look the last time, so i decided to leave it for a while until it cooled down. it has cooled down now, so i'm having another go. yesterday i started lowering the water level. so by next Friday the tank should be 2/3rds full. then i'll leave for a while, before emptying to half way and filling with water at about 20c, and increasing the temp to 23. i've turned the flow down and have the outlet way under the water level to keep oxygen levels down. i'll be looking out for low pressure for when i fill it back up after it's been 2/3rds empty for a while. does anybody know of a website that shows pressure? because on the tv weather it never shows pressure.

cheers :good:

hi, the tank is now 2/3 full, and has been since friday night. i've had a look on the met office website, and i think there will be a low pressure front on tuesday night, so is that when is should empty to half way and then fill up again?

and could you check that i'm right about the low pressure front, i'm in east yorkshire and i'm looking at tuesday night.

hi, i've now got the tank full and am bringing the temp up to 23c. i've put in an algae wafer and a catfish tablet, and have frozen bloodworm at the ready. i also have some live mosquito larvae. i've noticed that the kuhli loaches seem to be getting quite active, do you use similar methods to spawn them?

i'll keep you posted. :good:

edit: the corys are now becoming very active!!!

Sounds promising. Mine would be really active up and down the glass for a hour or 2 each time before they spawned so you could have some eggs soon.
Did you go for the lemon BNs in the end?

thanks, this is my community tank BTW, i haven't got the breeding tank setup yet.

in this tank i've got 8 bronze and 2 copei, i'm really hoping i've got a male and a female as i really like them, and haven't seen them anywhere else.

i'm still thinking of the lemon bn's for the breeding tank, although i'm not sure if i'm going to be getting it now, as my dad is getting a new bike to put into the workshop, so there might not be room. :/

but if there isn't room, i'll clear some space in the main tank and hopefully have some in there. :good:

Oh there probably going to get munched then unless you remove them.
Sounds good. BNS do pretty well at defending eggs so shouldnt be to much of a problem in a community tank.

thanks, i'm prepared with a range of tubs, from icecream to tupperware. :good: i'm hoping to raise some fry from the future bn's. if they defend babies like my kribs in the other tank then they'll be fine lol.

Fair enough. Make sure they have flow going over them though or they will get fungus. My BNs have help of corys, upside down catfish, apistogramma and loads of tetra, rabora ect.. The only thing that does get them is my banjo catfish and thats because he sneaks up slowly and grabs a few then shoots off.
